Mary Ann Maiangowi-Manatch is an emerging Odawa (Wiikwemkoong) & Algonquin (Mitchikanibikok Inik) artist practising on Treaty 13 on land, specializing in birch bark work and acrylic and oil paintings. Mary Ann’s work focuses on healing and ancestral knowledge pulling from her life experiences to create culturally significant pieces that help discuss Indigenous issues as well as Indigenous pedagogy. She advocates for Land Based Learning initiatives and the reintroduction of Indigenous knowledge into education. Mary Ann is studying Fine Arts at Centennial College. Mary Ann has been a two time participant with Ngig Indigenous Regalia Residency Summer with Indigenous Visual Culture at OCADU in both 2021/2022. She has also completed two hide camps with Niizh Manidook Hide Camp. She has recently exhibited with Leslie Grove Gallery this past spring with Centennial College’s Fine Arts Studio’s graduating class as well as at Terragon Theatre this past June.
